How to become a Critical Facilities Trainee in Australia
Learns how a data centre runs, alongside a qualified operator, before working on its plant alone. It’s the way in for school leavers and people new to the industry.
What the role does
A time-limited on-ramp to critical facilities: learns the site, its hazards and its routines, working only with a qualified person and away from live plant until signed off. Pre-employment courses run from four weeks and paid programmes from about three months to 18 months; they end at Operator. Staff for a new site may first train at an established one.
What a shift looks like
Days with the shift crew, shadowing the rounds, the alarms and the handover, and learning the site’s safety rules and procedures. Time in training and on site inductions, away from live plant until signed off.
